Wisdom Teeth are a third set of molars. They are the last teeth to erupt into the mouth. They erupt between the ages of 14-22. Wisdom Teeth removal is a very common treatment.
If there is insufficient space in the jaw bone for the wisdom teeth to come through these teeth can become stuck and can require wisdom teeth removal. This is called an impaction.
Impacted Wisdom teeth are often susceptible to infection around the gum tissue and decay in the tooth. These infections can develop quickly and at times can be severe.
The best place to start is to book a consultation with a dentist who will take a specialized x ray of the wisdom teeth. The dentist will assess the angle the tooth is growing on and make a decision as to whether or not wisdom teeth removal is required. By the age of 24-25 if the wisdom tooth is still impacted then removal is more than likely required.
We have a vastly experienced team of dental surgeons and visiting Oral Surgeons to look after you throughout the process. We also have a range of sedation options available. The surgeon will explain all of the pre and post operative instructions and any discomfort will be well managed.
In many cases private insurance will cover the cost of removal. The Tooth Company is an affiliated provider with Southern Cross Healthcare.
If you do not have insurance – pricing is on a case by case basis as there is a large range in difficulty. The cost of a consultation is $145 plus any required x rays.
