Wisdom Teeth Removal

What are Wisdom Teeth?

Wisdom Teeth are a third set of molars. They are the last teeth to erupt into the mouth. They erupt between the ages of 14-22.

Why do people have issues with their Wisdom Teeth?

If there is insufficient space in the jaw bone for the wisdom teeth to come through these teeth can become stuck. This is called an impaction.

Impacted Wisdom teeth are often susceptible to infection around the gum tissue and decay in the tooth. These infections can develop quickly and at times can be severe.

How do I know if my wisdom teeth are impacted ?

The best place to start is to book a consultation with a dentist who will take a specialized x ray of the wisdom teeth. The dentist will assess the angle the tooth is growing on and make a decision as to whether or not the tooth needs to be removed. By the age of 24-25 if the wisdom tooth is still impacted then removal is more than likely required.

What is the treatment like ?

We have a vastly experienced team of dental surgeons and visiting Oral Surgeons to look after you throughout the process. We also have a range of sedation options available. The surgeon will explain all of the pre and post operative instructions and any discomfort will be well managed.
